What to text after a first date

Text the same evening, keep it short, and say what you mean. If you enjoyed it, say so and suggest a next step. If you didn't feel it, a kind, clear message is better than silence.

If it went well

  • “I had a really good time tonight. Want to do this again next week?”
  • “Thanks for tonight, I loved that place you picked. Your turn to choose next time?”

If you're not sure yet

  • “Thanks for tonight, I enjoyed talking to you. Let's see how the week goes.”

If you don't want a second date

  • “Thanks for tonight. I don't think we're a match, but I really enjoyed meeting you. All the best.”

Timing

The same evening or the next morning is perfect. There's no rule that says wait three days; waiting mostly creates doubt.

Questions

Should I text first after a first date?

Yes, if you'd like to see them again. Being clear is attractive, and it saves you both the guessing.
