Best date ideas in Barcelona

Barcelona makes dating easy: viewpoints over the whole city, beaches in walking distance, and squares made for a drink that turns into dinner. These are the places we'd suggest, with the practical bits checked: what's free, what needs a ticket, and when each one is at its best.

Questions

What's a good date idea in Barcelona?

A drink on a square in Gràcia, then a short climb to the Turó del Putxet gardens for the evening light, works almost every time. By day, the view from the Bunkers del Carmel is hard to beat (check its opening hours first).

What can couples do in Barcelona for free?

Picnic in the Ciutadella park, watch the city from the Bunkers del Carmel by day or the Turó del Putxet at sunset, walk the Rambla del Poblenou down to the sea, or browse the Sunday book market at Sant Antoni. Our cheap and free guide has more.

Is the Carretera de les Aigües open?

Not at the moment. Access to the Collserola natural park, including the Carretera de les Aigües, has been closed since March 2026 because of African swine fever. We'll add it back when it reopens.

What should we do if it rains?

Pick something indoors that still gives you something to talk about: an exhibition at CaixaForum, the Sant Pau Art Nouveau site, or a covered market. See our rainy-day guide.
