Texting tone checker
Text has no tone of voice, so a message you meant as playful can land as cold, or too much. This tool will read your draft and tell you how it may come across, with suggestions to make it sound like you meant it.

Getting tone right in texts
- Read it out loud before sending: if it sounds harsh spoken, it'll feel harsher written.
- Short can read as cold: one warm word (“haha”, “honestly”, a name) changes a lot.
- Too many questions in one message can feel like pressure.
- Save serious topics for a call or in person; text is bad at nuance.
- When in doubt, keep it simple and kind.
Questions
Why do my texts come across wrong?
Without voice or face, people fill in the tone themselves, often more negatively than you meant.
Are full stops rude?
For some people a full stop on a short message feels a bit cold. It depends on how the other person texts.
Should serious conversations happen by text?
Start them by text if you need to, but have them in person or on a call.
